Young Sheldon’s Most Realistic Yet Still Fake Setting Detail

Although there are many things in Young Sheldon that were considered an improvement over the original The Big Bang Theory, the change in setting may be one of the biggest. Not only was there an obvious change in time, but also in place, and viewers were suddenly introduced to a whole new culture.

What you may not know about the town where Young Sheldon takes place, Medford, is that it's not real. But that doesn't mean that everything about it is fictional: according to real Texans who have spent their lives in the state, Medford is a pretty good representation of East Texas.

Accents aside, the show puts a lot of emphasis on the place being filled with churches and ruled by the word of God, and the general obsession with football that everyone seems to have.

It's understandable, since the writers had to add these traits to the parent characters, but it turns out they weren't far from the truth.

When asked on r/AskAnAmerican if Young Sheldon's Medford was realistic, the original poster received a plethora of responses that mostly confirmed the sentiment.

In a fairly small Texas town, especially in the late '80s, it wouldn't be surprising to see a couple like Mary and George Cooper facing similar struggles.

The only thing the writers get extremely wrong, considering how well everything else is researched, is the weather. If you don't remember any of the characters wearing warmer clothes, it's because they don't.

However, in a town like Medford, you would definitely need to stock up on cozy sweaters and find a coat for the winter.
