Young Sheldon’s Final Season Learns Nothing From TBBT’s Worst Mistake
Why kill a perfect show?
Summary:
- The Big Bang Theory wrapped up because Sheldon’s story came to the end.
- Young Sheldon is ending on the same note, leaving the rest of the characters in the unknown.
- The new spinoff may not help save the day.
Young Sheldon season 1 was released in 2017 and became an instant hit with the audience. As a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, the series managed to capture the attention of viewers and even become a more thought-provoking and deeper show than the original.
While the biggest spotlight was almost always on Sheldon, the spinoff is an ensemble cast show, so the focus was on all the members of the Cooper family. Over the years that the show aired on CBS, viewers became very attached to all of them and really invested in their lives.
The writers of the prequel did a great job creating the characters. Each of them is interesting enough to have their own major storylines, sometimes even more compelling than those involving Sheldon.
So the fact that the show has decided to wrap it all up after just one more season is actually a bit surprising for fans of the show. First of all, the show is still extremely popular, so why end it?
The second reason, which we think is even more important, is that it already looks like the last season will be full of rushed events and the storylines will not be properly addressed. The news that the new season will be only consisting of 14 episodes also doesn’t help, as it only proves the point.
“Not sure how are they gonna address all the big issues left unanswered in 14 episodes (Sheldon caught George cheating, George's death, why Sheldon immediately moved thousands of miles away once he got the chance, especially when he still seems very attached to Mary; but it's probably a non-issue, since it's Sheldon...),” Redditor nbcs said.
There are also even bigger storylines that fans have been expecting to be covered in the upcoming episodes, like Missy's redemption arc and Meemaw's complicated love life. Now it seems that they will all be left out or just poorly explored. If we are lucky, maybe we will at least get to witness George and Mindy’s wedding. Fingers crossed!
Fans are a little angry at the showrunners and the network for this, because the spinoff is simply falling into the same trap the parent show discovered itself in when it ended things after Sheldon got the Nobel. We know that the decision to end the show came after Jim Parsons revealed that he wanted to leave the series, but it still annoyed fans that the rest of the stories were left unexplored.
And now the same scenario will be used with Young Sheldon. The fact that Sheldon is ready to move away from Texas doesn't mean the show has to end; even with his name in the title, the series was still a family-centered one, not a one-man show.
There is news that the new spinoff of The Big Bang Theory is in the works, but there is almost no chance that it will focus on the characters from Young Sheldon, because while the two shows have a lot in common, it is not quite right to say that they are in the same universe.
Young Sheldon season 7 will be the last to air on CBS and will be released in February 2024.
