When Young Sheldon first hit the screens, it quickly gained popularity around the world.

Partially, this can be attributed to the millions of existing The Big Bang Theory fans, who couldn't wait to get a more in-depth glimpse of Sheldon Cooper's younger years. Although both the casting and storylines are certainly compelling, Young Sheldon has also delivered numerous glaring inconsistencies since its debut. And as if that wasn't enough, the show's sixth season has, in fact, managed to further disrespect the canon established by TBBT.

There's no doubt that creating two popular shows within the same universe is not an easy feat. From the plot to the characters, there are many nuances that need to be taken into consideration to make the series a success. Though some modifications are bound to take place in order to fit the narrative better, numerous plot holes can be found throughout Young Sheldon.

Now, the showrunners of the spin-off prequel have made it abundantly clear that they don't mind creating some inconsistencies between the two sitcoms.

In fact, show co-creator Steve Molaro himself has revealed to TVLine that they have to do what's best for the show, even if it means contradicting the established continuity of TBBT.

However, while some minor contradictions may be understandable, it looks like they have changed something that may arguably be the best thing about TBBT – the significance of Sheldon's friends.

As any TBBT fan knows, Sheldon has always struggled with making friends and being socially awkward. It was also emphasized that he had never been part of any social groups growing up until he made friends as an adult.

The spin-off sitcom, however, contradicts this point entirely as we saw that Sheldon had friends in high school and college. And in season 6, Sheldon's father even makes a remark to Mary Cooper that making new social connections shouldn't be too hard for her, seeing how Sheldon was able to make friends in school.

This notion not only confirms that Sheldon was, in fact, perfectly capable of making human connections before meeting his Pasadena friends but also diminishes the importance of their bond.

After all, more often than not, Sheldon didn't hold back when it came to his unreasonable demands, snarky comments toward others, and countless tantrums. One of the reasons why others put up with his peculiarities and tried to be understanding throughout the sitcom's entire run was because they knew about his lack of social skills.
