Young Sheldon's Mary Cooper Is Not As Bad Of A Mother As You Think She Is
It's hard to think of a more hated character than her.
If you had to name one character you dislike in Young Sheldon, it would probably be Mary Cooper.
The hardworking, religious Texas mom from the 80s, as portrayed by Zoe Perry, hits too close to home for many, and reminds people of their own childhood trauma with her single image.
But does she really deserve so much hatred as a character?
Having three children is hard enough. Having three children, one of whom is a special needs baby, and an addict for a husband is even harder.
While George may be the children's favorite parent and the audience's favorite, the truth is that he seems very far removed from actually running their daily lives.
Mary, who is often accused of gravitating more toward Sheldon, is also accused of neglecting the other two children, which is not true. There seems to be a lot of miscommunication between her and Missy, but no opportunity for open dialogue.
Perhaps because she already feels like a failing parent, Mary gives her daughter the space to be alone and ask for affection when she needs it.
When she doesn't, Mary takes it as a sign of inaction and continues to babysit Sheldon, who at least seems affectionate toward her.
It's not the best family situation, but it's not the worst either. While the majority of fans are still on the fence about Mary Cooper's character, some feel for her because of the unfair treatment she receives in the fandom.
People tend to react very dramatically to Mary's mistakes but are quick to make excuses when beloved characters like Meemaw and George do similar things.
Whether you think Mary is a good mother or not, you have to admit that her willingness to move countries to stay with her child in Germany and give him the best possible future is nothing short of admirable.
Besides, this will probably be a major turning point for season 7 of Young Sheldon when it premieres. Keep an eye out to not miss any news and updates!
