Young Sheldon Risks Turning Its Most Dramatic Storyline So Far Into a Joke
If you can't handle this topic right, you shouldn't touch it at all.
Over the course of six seasons, Young Sheldon has tackled several sensitive issues.
Issues within the family, caring for children with special needs, bullying, addictive behaviors and alcoholism – just to name a few.
However, fans are feeling an upcoming mess in one particular storyline focused on Missy.
In Episode 15 of season 6, we see Missy slowly coming to the very difficult decision of running away from home. She feels very belittled by her parents, who are much more concerned about Sheldon and their own failing marriage.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with the 13-year-old grabbing the keys to her father's truck and driving off in the middle of the night.
While the story may seem exaggerated, it is more common in reality than you might think, with 6 to 7% of teens running away from home each year.
Of course, one would hope that the producers would handle this issue properly, although some fans fear that it will be mistreated based on what they have seen in the sneak peeks of the upcoming season.
"They'll only belittle Missy's reasons to run away and throw that storyline aside immediately. It doesn't even start well, George finds out his truck is stolen WAY before he even realizes Missy is gone.
In my opinion, George has always been a better parent than Mary, but this? Yikes. I love the show but I'm scared they'll just ignore this very important storyline and treat it like a joke," Redditor gabiic95 shared their thoughts on where the episode is going to lead.
Unfortunately, this is more than likely for a comedy show to sweep such an issue under the rug and make a simple happy ending instead of exploring the reasons behind it.
However, it seems a bit early to assume anything, considering that we only got several seconds from the upcoming episode.
Check out how the story will unfold in the next Young Sheldon episode on Thursday, March 30th on CBS.
The show is available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount Plus.
