Young Sheldon Most Controversial Character Disappearance, Explained
The show actually never hid the real reason.
Throughout its long run of seven seasons, The Big Bang Theory ’s prequel Young Sheldon saw its side characters come and go, but some of them just vanished with no real explanation followed after that.
The show eventually offered some kind of closure to only one of those, letting Herschel Sparks’ son Billy spill the tea to Missy about his father who decided to leave his family and move to New Jersey, hence why we never saw him after season 2.
However, a much bigger mystery surrounded another controversial character for a very long time, but it actually wasn’t that hard to guess where he headed to after all.
Young Sheldon’s season 5 introduced Pastor Rob, a young pastor with pretty much unorthodox methods of teaching religion to kids. The character is first seen starting relationships with Mary Cooper on a weird note, since the latter had doubts about Pastor Rob’s ability to give kids an accurate understanding of faith in the first place, but then things got totally different.
Work at a local church eventually brought Pastor Rob and Mary closer to each other, almost leading to them having an affair, which later on causes a major crisis for Mary and George’s marriage.
However, the issue is soon resolved as Pastor Rob is nowhere to be found anymore, but his last encounter with Mary is in fact a pretty clear explanation of his eventual departure.
In season 6 episode 14 titled A Launch Party and a Whole Human Being, Pastor Rob suggests he and Mary have lunch together and opens up about his struggle to decide whether he wants to move or not after being offered a job at First Baptist Church in Little Rock Arkansas.
Mary’s advice doesn’t make things clear for the viewers at least as she tells him to follow his heart. Given that since that moment Pastor Rob never showed up in the series again, it’s fair to suggest that he did follow his heart and accepted the position in another state.
Pastor Rob’s sudden disappearance without any farewell party or at least saying goodbye to his friends and colleagues might be due to the fact that he didn’t want to cause more fuss after heating things up between Mary and Georgie, and that’s probably the reason why he was sent off from the show with no real closure.
