Young Sheldon Is Great, But It Makes Us Lowkey Hate Sheldon
The Big Bang Theory spinoff managed to outdo the original show for many people, but it also kind of ruins the main character.
Young Sheldon, currently heading into its seventh season, was a decent continuation of The Big Bang Theory 's legacy. Many people consider the spinoff to be even better than the mother series — even though it doesn't quite do justice for Sheldon Cooper himself, who gets even more spotlight in the spinoff that in The Big Bang Theory.
While watching the original show, one quickly notes how insufferable Sheldon actually is. It's fun to observe in a TV show, but if you think about it, you would hardly want a friend like Sheldon in real life.
Aside from sarcasm, Sheldon demonstrates constant failure to grasp basic social cues — something many fans believed was a result of his dark childhood. But now that Young Sheldon has given a glimpse of that very childhood, actually showing it to be not as dark, many fans are getting frustrated.
Redditor BlackCanaryForever noted that the spinoff shows Sheldon "had plenty of adults trying to give him decent guidance as a kid," but it was his choice to simply "never listen." And that kind of makes him an even worse person than many fans initially thought he was.
However, not everyone rushed to get disappointed.
"I feel like they made Sheldon's childhood nicer on Young Sheldon so it could still be a light-hearted comedy, but I'm sure in TBBT, he implied his dad was a drunk and abusive but George seems pretty normal in YS so I think they've made it a lot more family-friendly," Redditor Beginning_Success326 explained.
After all, it is no easy task to properly tie in the original show with the spinoff, and Young Sheldon did indeed need to stay light-hearted without tumbling down into a dark and dramatic thriller about Sheldon's abusive childhood.
But seriously, this guy clearly had a lot of guidance to not become just as insufferable as he turned out to be. Maybe season 7 will explain what exactly happened to our favorite nerd?
