Young Sheldon Foreshadows George's Demise in Season 7
George Cooper's death has been an impending plot twist since the beginning of the show, the only question is when. Actually, the writers have given us a clue.
Young Sheldon 's season 6 has finally addressed George and Mary's marital problems and interest in other people, but many viewers were quite taken aback when their lovers' spat ended so abruptly and without any real explanation.
Sure, George and Mary have presented a united front in dealing with Missy's rebellious attitude, but was that all it took to fix their marriage?
In fact, episode 16, A Stolen Truck and Going on the Lam, addresses this and more.
When George, Mary, and Linda come to pick up Missy and Paige, Linda sees the state of the Coopers' relationship and advises them not to keep their feelings bottled up.
Paige's mom says that therapy is a really good thing that helped her and Barry work things out, even though they ended up getting divorced. This is when things get biblical.
George and Mary are quick to dismiss the advice, believing that their marriage wouldn't end in divorce.
Mary confidently assures Linda that they aren't getting divorced, and George adds, "Yeah, over my dead body," to which Mary replies that this is "exactly how it's going to end."
This conversation quickly takes a dark turn, and this exchange basically foreshadows how their problems will be "solved."
George is set to pass away next year when Sheldon is 14, and the writers are evidently trying to make his death even more heartbreaking than it could've been.
Not only will they kill George off as per TBBT canon, but they will also probably make sure that he dies before he and Mary have a chance to talk things out, which will result in Mary never getting any closure.
Season 7 will be a game-changer for Young Sheldon's narrative. It will mark the genre transition from sitcom to drama, and what the creators choose to do next will determine the show's future success.
The child actors are aging out of their roles, and there's no more time to lose – the morbid events must happen next season, and we'll have to see if and how the Coopers survive them.
