The best Cooper deserved better.

Even though Young Sheldon is a sitcom, knowing where all of the show's characters end up in the future casts a dark shadow over their heads. From Georgie, who ends up with a successful business but struggles with his personal life, to Mary, who gets further into religion and becomes quite hateful of everyone, it seems that only Sheldon ends up happy.

Of course, it was not intended by the creators to draw such a connection, The Big Bang Theory came first, and all the struggles Sheldon's family members faced were mostly added for comedic effect. Young Sheldon was created later and was probably designed to be watched separately from the main series. Still, some full character arcs are quite daunting.

What Happens to Missy Cooper on The Big Bang Theory?

While many people were drawn to Missy's character on The Big Bang Theory and found her personality clash with Sheldon charming, it was Raegan Revord who made the character her own in Young Sheldon. Thanks to the actress' brilliant skills and undeniable charisma, Missy quickly became a fan favorite.

But that didn't stop her from ending the series in the worst position ever. When you think about it, of all the Cooper children, Missy ended up being the most affected by George's death. With Sheldon moving away and Georgie already busy with Mandy and her new family, Missy was left alone with her grief-stricken mother.

In her entire family, George Sr. was the person who showed her the most understanding. Now that he's gone, she's trapped with her mother, who only dives deeper into religious pursuits, and when you combine that with the way she ended up on The Big Bang Theory, it paints a bleak picture. Revord herself finds a lot of sympathy for her character:

“She just doesn’t have it easy. Her whole life, she was kind of ignored because of her [twin] brother, and the one person who paid her attention died. <...> Mary very much leans into her religion… and in Big Bang, Missy’s a waitress, she’s got all these kids [and] she’s the least successful Cooper kid,” the actress said to TVLine.

While Missy's story on The Big Bang Theory was sad enough, knowing how she ended up in such a bad situation and having no control over her personal life makes it even worse. However, Missy ends up being a good representation of all the forgotten siblings and middle children and how they can end up without the attention and support they need.

If you already miss Young Sheldon, you can start your rewatch marathon on Netflix or Max.
