Young Sheldon Finale Explained Another Major TBBT Detail
Now it seems that Mary had her reasons to visit Sheldon so often.
Having wrapped its story up around a month ago, Young Sheldon has spent seven years exploring Sheldon Cooper’s earlier life in his family home in Texas and diving deeper into the quirky character’s relationships with his loved ones, unveiling more and more mysteries that The Big Bang Theory never addressed.
The latter still made it clear that, despite Sheldon’s weird estranged attitude towards almost everyone around him, he had a pretty close relationship with his mother, Mary, even considering Sheldon’s harsh criticism of her religious beliefs.
The original show’s long-standing fans have been coming up with their own theories reflecting on the reasons why Sheldon has never been this close with anyone else until Young Sheldon’s final season came around and uncovered yet another big mystery.
Throughout its seven-year run, the prequel repeatedly caught Sheldon’s siblings, Missy and Georgie, complaining that Sheldon had always been Mary’s favorite. Though the character’s brother and sister were firm in their belief that it was all due to Sheldon’s remarkable intelligence, the show eventually proved that there was something else that helped Mary get closer with Sheldon.
By the end of the seventh season Sheldon is seen getting prepared for his departure for California when Mary suddenly reaches out to him asking her son to get baptized before leaving. Mary’s request isn’t limited to Sheldon only, as she also asks Missy and Georgie to do the same, though both of them are strongly opposed to such an idea.
Surprisingly enough, Sheldon, who has been quite skeptical about religious matters ever since he was a child, doesn’t join his siblings here and decides to fulfill Mary’s wish as he realizes that this is a big deal for her.
Seeing Sheldon put his own beliefs aside and agree to something he would never do without her request, Mary also feels a need to show her sincere gratitude when she becomes aware of the fact that Sheldon was always the one to value his mother the most, unlike Missy and Georgie who sometimes even took her for granted and ignored her advice.
This eventually comes as quite a logical explanation for why Mary was a frequent guest in Sheldon’s apartment in Pasadena, and there was no real mention of her visiting her other kids that often.
