Young Sheldon Fans May Not Be Ready to See George Go, but Lance Barber Is

Back in 2017, when Young Sheldon was just starting to air on CBS, many people wondered why the creators decided to expand The Big Bang Theory universe in this direction, focusing on a family story.

Now that the original series is long gone and Young Sheldon is coming to an end as well, there are no more questions.

The story of a clearly dysfunctional, yet relatable, '90s family living in the middle of Texas and going through all kinds of trials and tribulations with their little genius son has captured everyone's hearts. No matter what you think of Mary and George as parents, Meemaw's shady business, or Missy's tantrums, they will all be sorely missed.

The show's finale promised to be an emotional journey. But one farewell in particular will be the hardest to say.

Is George Cooper Going to Die in Young Sheldon S7?

As previously confirmed by Young Sheldon's team, tragedy will strike the Cooper family at some point in the final season.

Even though the prequel successfully avoided those storylines that didn't fit into the narrative so far, the death of his father was too big an event in Sheldon's life to ignore.

Whether that will happen off-camera or whether viewers will be invited to watch a heartfelt tribute remains to be seen. What everyone can agree on, however, is that George's death will be a tremendous loss. Lance Barber, who portrays the Cooper family patriarch, seems to be the most ready to let the character go.

When asked by TV Insider about the heart attack in season 2, which was a false alarm for fans who didn't know exactly when the tragedy would strike, Barber mentioned that he was aware of George's inevitable fate all along.

“I knew I wasn’t dying in that episode. I knew I had a long[er] life. The history that Big Bang had established is that George dies when Sheldon is 14. And now, he’s 14. I have nothing but gratitude [to this show]. I did have the luxury of knowing from the beginning to be emotionally prepared,” the actor said.

No matter how many mistakes in the narration Sheldon has made in his past, his father's death was a true memory that we as viewers will now have to face together.

However, it is unlikely that the show as lighthearted and sweet as Young Sheldon will let its viewers stay sad for too long, so be sure to tune in to CBS every Thursday to not miss another episode.
