Are you happy now?

Summary:

  • Young Sheldon is a CBS sitcom originally created as a prequel to The Big Bang Theory.
  • According to the lore established in the original show, George Cooper, Sheldon's father, dies.
  • As the 7th season will be the last, executive producer Steve Holland confirms that it will be canon in all aspects.

When you have a show as beloved as The Big Bang Theory on your hands, it may not be easy to live up to its legacy and keep its fans happy with any kind of spinoff.

However, the producers of Young Sheldon have managed to create a prequel that is just as beloved as the original show, not only securing an already established fan base, but adding new viewers as well.

While the show follows the early years of Sheldon Cooper's life in the chaos of early 90's Texas, it's his family that really steals the show. Over the course of 6 seasons, people fell in love with Meemaw, Mary, George, Missy and Georgie, and now care more about their finales than they do about the titular character.

Given that Young Sheldon is known for changing the canon established in The Big Bang Theory to better fit his own narrative, fans have wondered what changes they will see in season 7. Now, there is more clarity than ever about what to expect.

Will Sheldon’s Father Die In Season 7?

As we all know from the Cooper family lore from the original series, Sheldon's father did not live to see his son grow up and become successful.

George tragically died of heart complications, and while his age at the time of his death was unclear, fans expected this to be addressed during Young Sheldon's run.

Speaking to TVLine, the sitcom's executive producer, Steve Holland, finally confirmed that the fandom's suspicions were right all along. No matter how much Young Sheldon differs from the original show at times, there are some topics they cannot avoid.

“I don’t want to say what you will or won’t see, but things will get addressed. We are not beholden to every joke that was ever made on The Big Bang Theory, but we do feel beholden to the larger canon and the larger events that shape Sheldon’s life. We want to honor those,” he stated.

Now that there is no longer any mystery surrounding this grim topic, fans of the show are left to wonder how exactly this will happen.

Of course, everyone wants Lance Barber to stay for the entire season to celebrate the finale among the beloved cast, but no one knows for sure when and how the tragedy will strike.

Whether you'd prefer the show to get the sad part out of the way early and end on a high note, or wish the writers would leave George's death behind the cameras, we'll have to wait and see what actually happens.

Young Sheldon season 7 premieres on Thursday, February 15 on CBS, so be sure to tune in so you don't miss a thing.
