Spinoffs usually have a hard time surviving in the shadow of the original projects, but this one is a pleasant exception.

Young Sheldon was great news for every fan who couldn't let go of The Big Bang Theory when it came to an abrupt end in 2019.

Wrapping up the original show so quickly wasn't the original plan, as the series ended due to Jim Parsons' departure to explore what the future holds for him outside the comfort of The Big Bang Theory.

However, it didn't mean that the universe was not going to expand, and so Young Sheldon was born, delivering a prequel that delved into the quirky prodigy's childhood.

Six successful seasons later, many TBBT fans believe that Young Sheldon may have outdone the original.

"To me, The Big Bang Theory isn't binge worthy like so other shows. I've seen it through a time or 2 and I'm good with it. With Young Sheldon, I'm on my first watch and can see myself binging the show many times in the future," Redditor lakerfan2413 noted.

Young Sheldon is definitely much more dramatic and occasionally darker than The Big Bang Theory.

Given that the prequel hasn't yet explored its potentially darkest storyline (yes, we're talking about a certain death that none of us want to see), there's room for Young Sheldon to become even better than it already is.

Meanwhile, The Big Bang Theory remains what it is – a nice comedic sitcom, iconic of course, but nowhere near as dramatic as its spinoff.

Some fans seem to have cracked the secret of the prequel.

"For one, YS is multi-generational. The cast is comprised of elementary, middle, high school, and college students, plus their parents, a grandparent, teachers, professors, and a librarian, church members and staff, Georgie, Missy, and Meemaw's romantic interests, and at least one neighbor family.

TBBT's cast was a bunch of 30-somethings who occasionally visited, or were visited by, their family members," Redditor mike-edwards-etc said.

The Big Bang Theory has no plans to stop expanding. Recently, a new spinoff has been announced.

Though details are being kept under wraps, fans are confident that the future project has everything it needs to live up to the high bar that Young Sheldon has already set.
