The movie could have been very different from the one everyone is eagerly anticipating today.

With the release of Barbie getting closer by the day, fans can hardly wait for the highly anticipated movie and spend their time weighing the difficult decision of whether to see it or Oppenheimer first.

Who would have thought that a story about a doll that travels to the real world, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, would create such a buzz among all age groups. But apparently, the movie we are about to see could have been very different, both in terms of tone and choice of lead actress.

With Robbie at the center of attention, not everyone remembers that back in 2016, Amy Schumer was in negotiations to portray the legendary character, only to drop out less than a year later.

While the reason was first publicly stated to be a conflict in the actress' schedule, Schumer later confessed that the script didn't look particularly "feminist" to her. Nevertheless, the actress stated that she was excited to see how Barbie would turn out with the new cast and director.

Fans actually seem to be glad that Amy stepped down from the role, as they are not sure if she would have made as good a Barbie as Margot Robbie (at least for now).

To them, the situation looks rather comical, as apparently with her departure the creators had to take the "second best option" with Margot, who has arguably been at the peak of her popularity in recent years.

Besides, the direction the movie has taken since then has been a huge success, attracting an overwhelming amount of attention since the first trailers, as mentioned above.

With all due respect to Schumer, Barbie actually seems to have benefited from the casting of Margot as the lead and the eventual selection of Greta Gerwig as the director.

The film is scheduled for release on July 21, 2023, the same day as Christopher Nolan 's biopic Oppenheimer.
