Her cameo was short, yet extremely important.

CBS’ How I Met Your Mother is a cultish sitcom notorious for depicting the wildest characters ever possible and intertwining its fictional universe with reality in truly surprising ways.

These include numerous appearances of celebrities who take unlikely roles in the series. You may remember how Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Enrique Iglesias guest-starred on the show, but the whole list of such cameos is really impressive.

There was also the one of Morena Baccarin, who is famous for starring in Firefly, Gotham, Homeland and, of course, the Deadpool franchise, including this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

When and How Did Morena Baccarin Appear in HIMYM?

The finale of HIMYM’s first season marked Marshall and Lily’s separation after the latter broke off their engagement. At the beginning of Season 2, which aired in 2006, Marshall was still adjusting to single life, as Lily was the true love of his life.

However, in the 7th episode titled Swarley, he finally meets a girl who he can fall in love with. It is Chloe, played by Baccarin, a coffee shop worker who shows her interest in Jason Segel’s Marshall by drawing a heart next to his name on his cup.

Barney and Ted try to convince their friend to ask Chloe out on a date. Marshall hesitates, but eventually decides to start a new page in his life without Lily.

However, the new love story is not going to happen, as Lily returns from San Francisco and tries to win her fiancé back. That’s why she messes up Marshall and Chloe’s date and interrupts their first kiss, emerging out of the couch all of a sudden.

Why Was Baccarin’s Cameo Important to the Storyline?

Therefore, it is Chloe who proves to Lily that she still loves Marshall and wants to reconcile with him. Although Baccarin’s appearance on the show is really small, her character ends up being important to the Eriksens’ love story.

If you want to revise the Gotham star’s short-lived cameo in How I Met Your Mother and see how crucial it was to Marshall and Lily’s relationship, you can now stream the show on Netflix .
