Yet Another TVD's Bad Writing Choice Still Has Fans Shaking Their Heads
This character had barely been introduced before she was written off.
Summary
- This TVD character was treated so badly.
- In a show full of deaths and resurrections, this fan favorite could have been brought back.
- Writer's error made the show even more boring.
From setting up Elena and Stefan, but then having Elena choose Damon and making them endgame, to killing off Enzo and robbing Bonnie of her happy ending, The Vampire Diaries has certainly had some controversial and unpopular storylines, and this next one is no different.
Fans are not upset over the direction of this story, but more about what didn't happen with one character, the untold story and lost potential.
A missed opportunity
Alexia 'Lexi' Branson was a 350 year old vampire, and Stefan's best friend. Lexi had known the Salvatore brothers for over a century, and visited Stefan every year for his birthday. Her appearance in 162 Candles seemed to be just the beginning of her story, until Damon framed her and killed her to keep himself and Stefan safe from suspicion.
Lexi was an interesting new character, and one of the most 'down-to-earth' vampires to have appeared on the series, and killing her off so abruptly still feels like a wasted opportunity: not only there was so much more to unwrap with her character, but her untimely death could have easily been undone.
Lexi could have been brought back
She shouldn't have been killed in the first place, and the writers could have undone it with a resurrection spell, but chose not to. A distraught Stefan could have enlisted the help of Bonnie to bring his friend back, or find another means, but did not.
Had she stayed on in the series, Lexi definitely would have moved up the ranks as a favorite character, the relationship advice she gave Elena showed her to be a wise and caring friend and companion, as well as a powerful and experienced vampire, having taught Stefan how to feed on human blood without actually taking a life.
Many would argue that keeping Lexi in the story would have lessened the drama, as she would have been the sympathetic problem solver of the group, but this isn't necessarily true. She could have still been a side character and made appearances over time.
Fans have their own ideas
There are many reasons as to why her character couldn't be upgraded, with fan theories ranging from there already being too many main characters, to the studio not being able to afford her full time. Had her character come on full time, there would have been major changes to the plot, but this could have worked out for the better in the end.
But alas, fans will never know what her story could have been, as the writers got rid of her character just as quickly as they introduced her, and fans will never be able to forgive them for that.
