Yet Another Thing Young Sheldon Wouldn't Get Away With In Real Life
Sheldon successfully dodged a bullet many of us couldn't.
If after 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory anyone still had any doubts about Sheldon's traumatic childhood, Young Sheldon left no questions unanswered.
Raising a child with special needs is always a poignant and difficult subject, and Young Sheldon's team handled it in a reasonably realistic way. However, there is one moment that still seems a bit unbelievable to viewers.
High school is a place that is often hated by teenagers, regardless of their character. Unfortunately, many kids are still not ready to show tolerance and acceptance for someone who is different from them.
Let alone let them into their circle. While some teenagers form friendships, join clubs, and become popular, others remain loners, or worse, are bullied for being at least slightly different.
Since Sheldon is not only different in the way he expresses himself, but also so much younger than the rest of his classmates, it's hard to believe that he went through high school without any problems.
While some fans question this decision by the writers, others think it can be easily explained.
"Bullying would have been a bigger issue with people around his own age. Given the age gap, even if they were annoyed with/by him, the other students would probably just ignore him rather than actively bully him," Redditor papadoc19 said, explaining how the High School could actually be a much safer space for Sheldon rather than Middle School where he actually belonged.
Bullying a little kid would probably be too cruel for even the worst teenagers at school, and it wouldn't be any fun.
But even if someone did get to him, we're sure his dad wouldn't let it slide: after all, being a football coach comes with a fair amount of authority over young boys.
The fact that Sheldon was doing relatively well in school did not mean that his life at home was going smoothly.
