Yellowstone Lost Its Edge? Blame Jamie and Beth for Predictable Plot Twists
With the messy plots and long anticipated wait for its conclusion, has the show pushed too many fans away?
The nail-biting conclusion to Season 5 Part 1 left Yellowstone fans on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the return of the Dutton family. However, it seems that viewers will have to wait a while longer to find out what happens next.
Despite initial reports that the show would resume with episode 9 in autumn 2023, Paramount Network recently announced that the release of Season 5 Part 2 has been delayed until November 2024 due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. This news has come as a shock to many fans, who are now wondering how the Duttons will cope with the major problems they are sure to face.
The Beth and Jamie feud, will it ever end?
With so many storylines up in the air during this mid-season break, there are so many unanswered questions for the Paramount show's viewers, but perhaps the most common one in need of an answer is... when will Beth and Jamie's feud end?
Over the course of five seasons, Beth and Jamie's rivalry has been fuelled by a number of incidents:
- Jamie killing the journalist in season 2
- Market Equities plans to build an airport
- The truth of Jamie's adoption
- Jamie trying to get John impeached
But the biggest reason goes back to their childhood. Beth holds a deep-seated grudge against Jamie for accidentally causing her infertility when they were teenagers. It was a pivotal moment when Jamie played a role in her decision to have an abortion. This event has left a lasting mark on their relationship, serving as a constant reminder of the pain and resentment that has fuelled their ongoing feud, and Beth will not let viewers forget it.
On top of all this, Beth later discovered that Jamie had a secret baby, which only served to add to her anger towards him. She even went so far as to threaten to take the baby away from him out of pure spite and frustration over her own infertility.
Fans are bored of the storyline
The revelation of Jamie's baby to Beth may be the catalyst for the end of their long-standing feud. Despite holding all the cards in their relationship and having no reason to continue threatening her brother, Beth continues to torment Jamie, leaving him with no escape and possibly forcing him to take drastic measures to defend himself. As the midseason hiatus continues, fans are taking to social media to dissect the tired storyline and speculate on how the Yellowstone writers will ultimately resolve it.
Many fans on Reddit have stated that while Jamie has undoubtedly hurt Beth in the past, her reactions and those of other family members go beyond what he deserves. They even say that it has gone too far to be believable and that it has actually become cringe-worthy to watch.
There seems to be a widespread feeling that the storyline is likely to end in an over-the-top disaster, such as a murder-suicide situation. As much as Beth and Jamie have both had their badass and positive moments throughout the show, it seems that their presence in the later seasons has only caused Yellowstone in general to become soft and predictable.
