A truly remarkable moment in history.

It's hard to call a dramatization of the pivotal events of not-so-long-ago historical drama, but when it comes to each and every one of the various massive scandals that have engulfed the British monarchy, there's no doubt that it will be written into the history books for generations to come.

For now, however, Netflix 's Scoop is being billed as a biographical drama that follows the events that led BBC journalist Emily Maitlis to conduct the interview with Prince Andrew that ultimately led to his downfall in the public eye.

Is Scoop Based on Real Life?

Starring The X-Files star Gillian Anderson and former Doctor Who companion Billie Piper, Scoop is based on the real-life investigation that led the BBC to organize the interview with Prince Andrew. The purpose of the interview was to investigate the monarch's relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

It's hard to put into words the importance of this one interview. The Epstein case is already mysterious enough, and there are many rumors surrounding it, as the man had a wide circle of influential acquaintances around him, all of whom could have been involved in his crimes. However, without evidence, the public is left with nothing but speculation.

Considering that there is perhaps no family more protected and untouchable than the family of the British monarchs, the only possibility to have a conversation with Prince Andrew about these allegations seems to be a miracle. In reality, however, it was the result of the hard work of two women in particular: Emily Maitlis and Sam McAlister.

Directed by Philip Martin, the film will give you all the answers as to how this interview was even possible. What were Maitlis and McAlister's motives in planning this? How did they deal with the impenetrable security of the palace? And why did Prince Andrew agree to give an interview about something he clearly couldn't use to his advantage?

If you are interested in all the juicy behind-the-scenes details of the most sensational interview of the 21st century, be sure to tune in to Netflix this Friday, April 5, to catch the premiere.
