Sometimes, extra lines are simply unnecessary.

We love Johnny Depp for many roles: from the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow and the quirky Willy Wonka to the ill-fated Gellert Grindelwald and Sweeney Todd.

But there is one undoubtedly iconic role that Depp landed back at the very beginning of his stellar career.

Of course, we're talking about Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton's legendary character from the 1990 movie of the same name.

An unfortunate experiment created by an inventor who meets his untimely demise, Edward is awkward, lonely, and not quite able to live a normal life because he has scissors instead of hands.

Portrayed impeccably by Depp, Edward was not meant to be too eloquent, as he was supposed to be "just a pair of eyes in terms of emotion."

So the actor did not have a lot of lines to deliver the performance, having to stick to his eyes and movements rather than relying on verbal communication.

Over the course of the film, Depp barely says more than 150 words. Still, his paycheck needed no more: for his brilliant performance, the actor received $1.5 million.

However, Edward Scissorhands is not the only case when the actor says very little and pockets quite a lot.

For instance, in the most recent John Wick installment starring Keanu Reeves, the titular character only uttered about 380 words in the three hours of the movie.

Reeves' paycheck, however, was even more impressive than Depp's in the 1990 iconic movie: for John Wick 4, Keanu received as much as $15 million.
