There is no way that Spider-Man: No Way Home would be as great as it is without the iconic comeback of Willem Dafoe.

Dafoe's performance as Norman Osborn, the brilliant but deranged scientist who becomes the supervillain Green Goblin in Sam Raimi 's 2002 Spider-Man, was and still remains one of the best superhero villain performances ever.

His phenomenal acting captured the complex and sinister nature of the character, making him one of the most memorable and beloved by fans.

Though the role was offered to many before Dafoe auditioned, and he was discouraged by others immediately after accepting it, his passion and belief in the project landed him the opportunity of a lifetime.

Dafoe's performance as Norman Osborn was widely acclaimed, earning him award nominations and praise from fans and critics alike, and making his character sought after on the big screen 20 years later.

In 2021, Willem Dafoe reprised his iconic role in the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, along with his Spidey, Tobey Maguire, and Peter Parkers from other universes. His iconic laugh elicited immense excitement among fans as soon as it was heard from the big movie screens.

However, few know that the actor agreed to return to the role only under one condition.

In his interview with The New York Times, Dafoe revealed that he wanted to go bigger with his character and have more action than just a cameo.

He wanted to do something substantial and be a part of the action scenes to really give the character a root and not just create a new kind of internet meme.

As we can see, Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts and film producer Amy Pascal did everything Dafoe asked for, not only bringing the beloved actor back to his role on the big screen but also breathing new life into his character, making the journey of the Spider-Men more adventurous and chilling.

Fans enjoyed Dafoe's return and felt that no one could have done it better. The actor's faith 20 years ago didn't let him listen to the critics who tried to convince him to leave the role.

Dafoe believed in something that over time not only became a huge part of cinematography and the actor's acting life but also changed superhero movies forever.
