ABC’s crime drama Will Trent has been drawing everyone’s attention ever since the first season’s release back in 2023 — and thanks to not only a compelling plot, but also to a specific cinematic style.
Seemingly made with a film of some kind of green-ish tint, the show features the omnipresent color green that doesn’t get a tiniest explanation from the plot — but will probably be much more clarified by the series’ fans.
Based on Karin Slaughter’s series of novels, the show follows eponymous character Will Trent who, after the harsh childhood of an abandoned kid brought up in an overwhelming atmosphere of the Atlanta foster care system, gets a job of a special agent in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Observant and intelligent enough to grasp tiny changes and to solve most of the GBI’s cases, Will pursues only one and only aim to never let anyone be left behind like he was once.
The show’s mysterious crime aesthetics was quickly caught by fans — but in a weird way. Many took it to the internet to share their thoughts about why the main character is literally obsessed with green-coloured clothes, let alone the series’ general desire to insert something green-ish wherever it fits or doesn’t fit at all.
Some fans even expressed their annoyance by such a choice of a specific color which obviously makes the series a bit harder to watch, whether you’re a fan of green yourself or not.
Though one user has seemingly found quite an explainable reason for Will Trent’s obsession with green. On Reddit, they posted a comment saying that green is definitely the show’s style choice that can be due to several aspects.
As they explained, many cinephiles may know that colors in movies or shows aren’t used just to be there as they tend to have a specific aim expressing some certain mood for every single scene — and this concerns the characters’ clothes and the lighting in particular.
Just like with all of the film’s other attributes, colors can also serve as a way for the characters to express their emotions — here even remembering Twilight with its omnipresent blue-ish tint will be enough.
Thus, according to the user, green can indeed have many meanings — “perfectionistic, analytical, conceptual, cool, calm, inventive and logical” and, what’s even more interesting in Will Trent’s case, “represent anxiety.”
The latter thus seems to fit the main character’s personality quite well as the show repeatedly emphasizes his troubled childhood and growing up in an uncomfortable environment.
