Will Trent Completely Ignored the Book’s Major Character (But Still Can Fix It)
The creators have in fact never forgotten about it.
Summary:
- ABC’ police procedural crime show Will Trent has seemingly joined a list of book-based series that actually never stuck to the fullest to the original source as the Ramón Rodríguez-led drama brutally ignored the novel’s major character.
- Over the course of its television run, Will Trent had in fact quite many changes in the storyline and the characters’ appearance.
- Despite what fans thought all this time, the leading actor’s revelations confirm that the creators still have big plans for the overlooked character’s appearance in the show.
When a show doesn’t come as something original being based on some kind of book, it still doesn’t necessarily need to stick to the primary source, and modern TV has been a constant proof of it. ABC is one of the most recent examples of this with its hit show Will Trent the plot for which originally comes from Karin Slaughter’s book series.
While the show completely changed some major aspects of the storyline, it also brutally ignored one significant character from the novel that never made an appearance in the TV version, yet this problem may be solved quite soon.
Will Trent: Book vs. Show Differences
When turning the book plot into a long-standing show, the creators had quite a lot of things totally transformed, and someone doesn’t have to go far in this case if they are familiar with the original novel. It all starts with Will Trent himself who in the book is described as white, blonde and tall, while Ramón Rodríguez is quite far from embracing any of those aspects.
On top of that, two other characters, Amanda and Faith portrayed by Sonja Sohn and Iantha Richardson respectively, are also played by Black actors, but the book still describes them as White.
Yet all those differences never got the same attention as the fact that the show just overlooked a major character that appears in the novel. So far Will Trent has been completely silent about Sara Linton who is introduced in the third book as the main character’s longtime girlfriend.
Sara’s overall importance to Will Trent is complemented by the fact that she also has to deal with the criminal world working as a coroner that often assists at the crime scene.
Will Season 3 Finally Introduce Sara Linton?
Despite the book fans’ rage towards the show about Sara’s exclusion, it seems like this issue may be resolved in the upcoming season 3. As Ramón Rodríguez revealed in one of his recent interviews, the creators are pretty much aware that Sara Linton is “a big deal” in the main storyline.
According to the actor, the character is a big figure in the novel so it has to keep its significance in the show as well, which the crew wants “to be really mindful” about.
