The original 'Frozen' animated movie turned out to be iconic, but is there a chance for potential threequel to get even bigger and better?

Even though there has been no official announcement regarding a potential third 'Frozen' movie, a lot of fans, as well as some crew members, are already voicing hopes for it to happen.

For her part, Idina Menzel, who voiced Princess Elsa in the two Disney movies about the ice-bending royal and her friends and family, said that she would be happy to return to the role should Disney greenlight another sequel.

"I hope it is, but I don't know," the actress told Shop Today as she was musing on the idea of 'Frozen 3'. "Anytime I can be 80 and play a blonde animated girl who is, like, 15 — who has amazing arms, by the way, I love that about her."

Following the tremendous success of the original 'Frozen' movie, where Menzel portrays an Arendell princess capable of freezing whatever she likes, Disney was quick to release a sequel. However, while garnering a lot of love from hardcore 'Frozen' fans, the second movie has not conquered as many hearts as the first one – mainly because of the studio sticking to its well-known "formula", according to some critics.

With 'Frozen 2' not really managing to follow the groundbreaking footsteps of the original movie, a lot of fans are very cautious about the idea of Disney greenlighting a threequel.

Other people, however, are cool with the idea of another 'Frozen' movie. After all, there are plenty of other characters to turn into an ice statue now that both Elsa and her sister Anna have already undergone that.

Besides, many fans are still eager for Elsa to find love, even though both previous movies made it quite clear that she was okay without a romantic partner.

Still, the third movie could potentially provide a good closure not only for Menzel's character but also for the 'Frozen' universe as a whole. Elsa's potential love story aside, she is still away from home and separated from Anna, with a lot of fans rallying online for creators to bring her back to Arendell. Additionally, there is another hashtag, #RedeemHans, with people calling to further develop the story of Prince Hans, the main antagonist of the 2013 'Frozen' movie. Some fans think he was manipulated into acting like a villain, while not actually being one, and 'Frozen 3' addressing this theory could make a good plot twist.

The first movie was released in 2013, followed by 'Frozen 2' hitting screens in 2019. Both movies grossed big, with their commercial success potentially increasing the chances of the third movie to be greenlit by Disney.
