Will Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Be ‘Stranger Things In Space’?
Despite being centered around a group of kids, a new update gives fans hope that it might end up being a bit more complex than expected.
While most Star Wars fans' attention is currently focused on the upcoming Ahsoka TV series, which will be released relatively soon, on August 23rd, 2023, there are a couple of other TV series set in the galaxy far, far away waiting for their time.
One of them is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which is expected to come after Ahsoka, but until now not much has been known about what to expect from it, apart from the short plot summary and the cast.
In the Dagobah Dispatch podcast, Jude Law, who plays one of the main characters in the show, and Christopher Ford, one of the creators, revealed what the show will be like in terms of tone and target audience.
It has been known for some time that the show will focus on a group of kids trying to get home after getting lost in space, and that they will encounter Jude Law's presumably Force-sensitive character, as the trailer shown exclusively at Star Wars Celebration 2023 featured a moment where he levitates an object.
However, the creators hope that it will be interesting for all ages, as it wasn't conceived as a story specifically for children, but rather one that "just happens to be about kids" going on an adventure.
According to Jude Law, the series will have "a goofy nature and a goofy relationship between the kids and the adults" as well as "dark and quite scary" moments.
Although some of the adult Star Wars fans are a bit skeptical about the show being about a group of kids, it still has a chance to appeal to all audiences.
Of course, it is very unlikely that we will get the Andor level of seriousness, but some fans point out that Netflix 's hit series Stranger Things also focused on a group of kids and featured both lighthearted, silly moments and some really dark and disturbing stuff.
They're also excited to see Jude Law in the franchise and hope that this great actor won't be wasted on a low-quality series.
With all this in mind, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has a good chance of not ending up as a "stupid kids' show" if the creators manage to come up with a good story and great characters that will hopefully avoid the typical kids' stereotypes of "arrogant boy," "smart girl," etc.
The show is expected to be released sometime in November-December 2023.
