Greta Gerwig is set to helm at least two new film adaptations, but some fans are already against the whole deal.

It seems that another beloved franchise is about to get a reboot, as The New Yorker has just revealed that Greta Gerwig will write and direct at least two movies based on the Chronicles of Narnia novels by C.S. Lewis.

These will be the first steps in reviving the franchise on Netflix for possible further development through movies and TV series.

However, fans seem to be quite divided over the news for a variety of reasons. The last time the Chronicles of Narnia were adapted for the big screen was Disney 's trilogy, which ran from 2005 to 2010 and included adaptations of the first three books.

While it got off to a relatively strong start, each subsequent film got worse and worse, and after the release of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the franchise was officially dead.

Despite this, a whole new generation of fans grew up watching them, and now they are against the idea of seeing a new iteration of the Chronicles, as the trilogy still holds a special place in their hearts.

They say that if not great, the Disney movies were perfectly fine and did a decent job of adapting the original books, so there is no need for another franchise to be rebooted.

Others, however, feel that this is a perfect opportunity to fully adapt the books this time around, since the Disney movies only covered three of the seven novels, and with a filmmaker as talented as Greta at the helm, there is a good chance that the result will be spectacular.

But there are also fans who believe that the problem lies in the format itself, as making the new Chronicles into a TV series would have allowed for a more complete and faithful adaptation of the source material, avoiding the runtime limitations of the movies.

No further information about the projects has been released, including a release date. Greta Gerwig's next film, Barbie, is less than a month away and is scheduled for release on July 21, 2023.
