Will Jyn Erso Be in Andor?
The highly anticipated Disney series 'Andor,' which is part of the Star Wars franchise, debuts later this month, and fans are already guessing what this show will look like from the trailer and the poster.
Andor 's main character, Captain Cassian Andor, first appeared in 'Rogue One' as a secondary character, and now finally got his own spin-off, so there's no way we can talk about 'Andor' without remembering the cast and plot of 'Rogue One' and wondering how many characters from the movie will return in the new series.
One of the most prominent characters to return is Saw Gerrera (played by Forest Whitaker), so fans are also counting on the return of Saw's adopted daughter and 'Rogue One's' protagonist Gyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones).
The Rebel Alliance was an integral part of 'Rogue One,' and the new series is definitely going to expand on their activities. However, characters such as Jyn Erso will be difficult to bring back to Andor's first season, especially because of her character ark in 'Rogue One' and the place 'Andor' takes on the Star Wars timeline.
Let us remind you of Jyn's story. She was the daughter of the brilliant scientist Galen Erso, and after her mother was killed and her father abducted by the Empire, Jyn was taken in by Galen's old friend Saw Gerrera – the leader of a small resistance group known as the Partisans. Saw replaced her father and taught her how to fight, but was forced to leave her when her kinship with Galen was nearly revealed by a traitor within the Partisan group. Jyn was only sixteen at the time. Abandoned by another father, she became a criminal and several years later was saved from incarceration by the members of the Rebel Alliance. She was recruited into the Alliance by its founder, former Senator Mon Mothma, to use her as a means to get to Galen, as the Alliance wanted to find out his role in the creation of the Death Star. All this led to Jyn's heroic death after she and Captain Andor succeeded in sending the Death Star plans to the rebels.
According to 'Andor' creator Tony Gilroy, the events of the first season of the series will take place five years before the events of 'Rogue One' and 'A New Hope. This means that at the time, Jyn was still living the life of a petty criminal and trying to stay away from the Alliance.
However, since the events of season two of 'Andor' will span the next four years, perhaps we can see Jyn again. The heroic Jyn Erso is one of the most interesting characters in the Star Wars universe and we would all certainly love to see her new adventures.
