Marvel's 'X-Men' is currently surrounded more by speculations than facts, but still.

With Marvel Studios seemingly confirming mutants in the MCU after saying that Kamala Khan has a "mutation" in her genes, fans deemed it an official nod to X-Men and a confirmation of the upcoming project about mutants.

However, despite big hopes for San Diego Comic-Con to be the platform for Marvel to announce this project, that didn't happen. One of the actors who was a popular fancast for the role of Cyclops, Glen Powell, had been bombarded with questions – finally, he decided to address the mystery himself.

"Before Comic-Con, everybody was like, "Dude, are you Cyclops?" No, I'm not. Nobody has called me. I don't even have one contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about," Powell told Variety.

Cyclops is one of the most popular X-Men characters, with many actors being rumored to be in consideration for the role. Aside from Powell, who has debunked his involvement, fans are fancasting Aaron Paul, Ansel Elgort, Rege Jean-Page and Chris Pine.

Powell casting rumors have never been confirmed by Marvel, coming from Reddit and being more of a fan theory gone viral than an actual casting report. With the current state of affairs in the MCU, an X-Men project is unlikely to happen until at least Phase 7 – which means we will have to wait until after 2025 to have any casting updates.

While it doesn't restrict fans in their casting suggestions, one has to be especially careful with rumors and verify any reports before taking something for a fact.
