Will Ellie Be Recast in The Last of Us Season 2?
Some fans still criticize The Last of Us for casting Bella Ramsey as Ellie, arguing that the HBO version of the character is too different to that from the game.
The Last of Us, an American post-apocalyptic drama television series from HBO, is nearing the end of its first season. Based on the 2013 video game developed by Naughty Dog, the story revolves around a smuggler, Joel (Pedro Pascal ), who is tasked with delivering a teenager, Ellie (Bella Ramsey), to the other side of the United States.
On their journey across the country, which has been devastated by a fungal infection pandemic, they encounter all sorts of dangers, ranging from marauders and cannibals to zombie-like infected creatures.
After receiving an extremely warm reception from critics and fans, which is rare for a videogame adaptation, the show's approval for a second season was only a matter of time, which was confirmed on January 27, 2023.
However, it made some fans believe that Bella Ramsey would be replaced by another actress. The reason for this was the fact that the second season will follow the story of the game's sequel.
It takes place four years after the events of the original game and revolves around Ellie, who travels to Seattle in search of a certain character.
Considering the time jump between the two games (as well as the seasons) and the more violent turn of Ellie's character, fans at the time were skeptical of Ramsey's acting abilities to adapt to such drastic changes.
Those doubts were justified, as the show toned down the amount of fight scenes compared to the game, and the actress didn't get a chance to shine until episode 8.
Fortunately, that no longer seems to be the case after Bella nailed the portrayal of Ellie's brutal side in the aforementioned episode of the show. Her encounter with cannibal David was just as gruesome and intense as it was in the game.
In addition, Ramsey is currently 19 years old, playing the role of a 14-year-old. So when the second season comes out, she will be even older than her character.
There is absolutely no doubt that the actress will reprise the role of Ellie in the future. As a tweet from Bella suggests, she is still a part of the show.
The Last of Us Season 1 finale is scheduled to be released on March 12, 2023.
