Why a Scrubs Reunion Movie Is the Worst Idea Ever – Sorry, Bill Lawrence
We know that many of you love Scrubs more than Turk and are yearning for another reunion in the form of a movie, but it might not turn out as good as you might think.
The show's creator Bill Lawrence has recently said that the Scrubs reunion movie is "inevitable". The cast and crew hang out a lot – they don't even need a festival or a Comic Con to get together, just dinner and drinks will do.
Lawrence shared a joke that they have, "The first time that six months go by that we don't hang out, we'll end up doing a Scrubs reunion." That sounds… tempting. Or does it?
While fans agree that the Scrubs cast is an absolute gem – their on-screen chemistry is undeniable, and they all still love each other off-screen, many doubt that we really need anything more than a picture of them hanging out together.
First, let's remember the disaster of a season, the one that shall not be named, the one that simply disappointed everyone… Season 9, that is.
Everything was wrong with it, the atmosphere was different, and the characters were not as captivating. We could go on, but we won't. You get the idea.
Second, it has been 13 years, and that is a long time to pass for the show's timeline. The main characters are pushing 50 and are probably accomplished doctors by now, so we may not get the same trying-to-make-it-in-medicine vibe from the show.
Third, some of the actors are no longer with us. For instance, Sam Lloyd, who played Ted and was arguably the funniest character on the show, passed away in 2020.
It would be so sad to watch Ted-less Scrubs, right?
All in all, the three Rs (reboots, remakes, and reunions) may sound good on paper but usually turn out worse in reality. We don't want that for our favorite Scrubs, do you?
It would be great to see the cast in more movies and shows together. Bill, make it happen in Ted Lasso or Shrinking (though he has already started to)!
