Because yes, it is a competition.

Winged beasts in 'House of the Dragon ' are easily conquering fans' hearts, garnering even more love than human characters. But since there will be at least nine dragons in the first season, it might be tricky to quickly navigate oneself in the world of fire-breathers.

With every Targaryen wielding their own dragon, it's only natural to wonder who was lucky enough to secure the most powerful one — and is there such a dragon in the show?

We already know the biggest dragon in the universe — Balerion, but this big boy is dead at the time when 'House of the Dragon' takes place. Besides, it might not even be about the size.

However, in the case of 'House of the Dragon', it is about the size. At least that's what one may decide knowing that, after Balerion's death, Vhagar — one of the three legendary dragons who conquered Westeros — ended up being the biggest and the most powerful fire-breather alive.

Still, this flattering fact does not mean that her rider has an ultimate advantage in battles, because it is also about the skill and wit of both the dragon and its owner. Vhagar was originally flown by Visenya Targaryen, but in 'House of the Dragon', she will be ridden by Laena Velaryon (Savannah Steyn) and Prince Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell).

Among the dangerous rivals are Caraxes — the red and snake-like dragon famous for his aggression and temper, ridden by Daemon Targaryen; and Syrax, who has less battle experience than Caraxes but is still huge and intimidating. She is ridden by Rhaenyra Targaryen.

All of these dragons are set to lock horns in a bloody civil war among the Targaryens that will erupt because of the succession issues. Just how well things will end for the family and for the winged beasts, we are yet to see in the 'Game of Thrones ' prequel.

'House of the Dragon' is currently streaming on HBO Max. New episodes arrive every Sunday.
