The show’s mind-blowing plot twist in season 10 welcomed an unexpected family member to the Reagans’ traditional dinner table.

Throughout Blue Bloods ’ TV run of more than a decade, the show has had a fair number of shocking twists and turns that shook the Reagans up every so often. But many may agree that nothing compares to their discovery of yet another family member who has always been there without anyone realizing that.

In season 10 finale, a bombshell revelation was dropped about NYPD young Detective Joseph "Joe" Hill, making it clear that the latter had a direct connection to the Reagans all along, yet it’s all still pretty much complicated to grasp at once.

Since Blue Bloods initially started as a show about a big family that, despite being well known across the city as a kin of police officers, still prioritized their tight bond within their family house rather than outside of it, that major plot twist revealing that there was another Reagan out there who nobody knew about was indeed a huge surprise.

Additionally, Joe Hill seemingly had no clue about his origin either and hence had no intention of joining the Reagans, though his mother Paula, who also happened to be the cop family’s friend, unveiled the secret to the Reagans’ patriarch Frank.

According to her, Joe was a son of Frank’s deceased son Joseph who had been killed during a mission years before everyone found out about him having a child, yet she also added that Joseph himself had no idea that he actually had a son.

Ironically enough, Joe Hill was a NYPD employee himself, without even realizing that he was following his father and actually the rest of the family’s suit all that time. This came as some kind of extra proof that Joe was indeed part of the Reagan family, and its members seemingly had no hesitation before recognizing it.

Both sides eventually express their desire to get to know each other better, and Frank introduces Joe to the rest of the family, making a very sweet gesture and inviting his newly found grandson to the traditional Sunday dinner.

Having handled an initially confusing plot twist in the best way possible, Blue Bloods brought Joe Hill on the main stage turning him into an important recurring character starting from season 11.
