Who Dies in 'Stranger Things' Season 4 Episode 1?
'Stranger Things' is back after three years of hiatus, ready to break our hearts again.
Warning: the following article contains spoilers for 'Stranger Things ' season 4
It's only episode 1 of the new season, and this show is already starting with a bunch of deaths.
The very first scenes of the episode give us a look at Eleven when she was a lot younger – and, apparently, a lot angrier, as she murders "Papa" and a bunch of other children in the laboratory. The scene is pretty gruesome, with Netflix even having to add a warning card at the beginning of the episode, as the episodes aired just days after the deadly school shooting in Texas.
The episode 1 ending, however, turns out to be no less disturbing. Chrissy Cunningham, a cheerleader student who is the most popular girl in Hawkins' school, is haunted by the vision of her grandfather's ticking clock and suffers from scary hallucinations that have a Demogorgon-like humanoid creature in them. At the end of the episode, Chrissy ends up being possessed and killed by it.
Fans, some of whom initially thought Chrissy might even become one of the main characters at some point, were shocked to see her death as the episode 1 cliffhanger.
Chrissy's death was also a shock for Eddie Munson, the leader of the so-called "Hellfire Club" – a fan society based on Dungeons&Dragons game. Eddie and Chrissy shared some electrifying chemistry on screen, so the fans who already started shipping them had an even harder time processing Chrissy's death.
With Chrissy dying right after Eddie gave her drugs, many fans suspect that he would be blamed for her death.
Episode 1 was surely a jaw-dropping way to kick them stranger things off. On May 27, seven new episodes of the show dropped on Netflix, with episodes 8 and 9 to premiere on July 1.
