Who Dies and Who Leaves in 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 18 Finale?
ABC's biggest medical drama just wrapped up its 18th season, and the two-episode finale certainly left viewers with some juicy cliffhangers.
The biggest question before the release of the show's groundbreaking 399th and 400th episodes was whether Ellen Pompeo's Meredith, would stay in Seattle with the others at the Grey Sloan Hospital, or would she move to Minnesota in an effort to make a fresh start? Well, we finally know the answer – Meredith will stay. But the other main characters probably won't.
The series finale paints a grim picture for most of the characters: an acute blood shortage at the hospital and the incoming medical accreditation that will decide the fate of the hospital's residency program. Yes, these episodes certainly put doctors in real trouble, and Jamara Blake's (Dawnn Lewis) decision to end the residency program leads to the beloved heroine Bailey (Chandra Wilson) quitting her job at the hospital. But not before she lets go of Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy (Kim Raver) after a man denounces them for helping with an illegal suicide program. In a serious cliffhanger, viewers saw Teddy and Owen leave the country with their children.
Despite Meredith being famous as one of the most gifted surgeons at Grey Sloan, she too can make a mistake. Her unorthodox approach to curing the patient resulted in him dying, severely damaging Hospital's reputation and Meredith's own.
And that's not all – Meredith has been offered a position as head of surgery, which ultimately helps her decide to stay at Grey Sloan. But not everything is yet good, after a major falling out between Meredith and Nick (Scott Speedman) results in Pompeo's character telling her love-interest to return to Minnesota without her. After realizing what she said, Meredith rushes to the door to see that Nick has already left. Will he be back in season 19? The series' creative team decided not to reveal their cards, leaving the fates of several major characters in limbo, assuring that fans will look forward to the next installment of the medical drama.
