The Last of Us is blowing the audience's minds with every new episode.

It was much anticipated by fans of the game, and equally fans of The Walking Dead which ended shortly before TLoU commenced. It had a tonne of hype to live up to from both camps of viewers, and so far, it has exceeded all expectations.

Fans inevitably draw comparisons between the game and the TV series. This is understandable, given the popularity of the source material and the cult status it has achieved since its release.

One of the most common topics raised by fans is the differences and similarities they see.

There's no shortage of truly iconic scenes in the game, and there's been a lively discussion on Reddit with fans offering their opinions on which aspects of the game won't appear in the adaptation, including several key scenes. But one scene has fans hoping for a change.

Fans have a few criticisms of the TLoU game, one of which concerns Joel's injury. While they feel that his injury is crucial to the bond he develops with Ellie, as she is the one who cares for him, they have a problem with the lack of realism.

They have pointed out that taking a piece of rebar through the back and out the front of his stomach is not a survivable wound.

There is no denying that Joel is tough as nails, but there is something to be said for making human characters in this kind of story actually "human".

For Joel not to die is practically a superhuman feat and therefore takes away from his heroism later in the story.

Audiences have been adamant that they feel Joel needs to be injured so that Ellie can tend to him, citing it as a critical plot point for the story. But they hope that the nature of his injury will be changed to be more realistic.

They believe that toning down the extremity of the wound to make it more survivable would not take away from the scene, and would in fact make it even more impactful, as it would not be so far-fetched.

This is all speculation at this point, and only time will tell which direction the show will take. What is certain is that fans will be eager to find out what happens.
