Which Hogwarts House Does Dudley Dursley Belong To? Fans Got a Surprising Answer
Frankly, the British wizarding school was lucky that the Dursleys' son was born a Muggle. But what if he wasn't?
Identifying your Hogwarts house is probably the first instinct of every Harry Potter fan, even if none of us received our Hogwarts letters. But even in the story, there are some Muggle characters that fans try to sort into Hogwarts houses, even though Muggles could never attend the wizarding school.
One such character is Dudley Dursley, the annoying son of Vernon and Petunia who wouldn't stop bullying Harry until their last moments together in Deathly Hallows, when the Dursley family left Privet Drive to save themselves from Voldemort. In a big "what if" moment, fans on the Harry Potter subreddit decided to find out which Hogwarts house would welcome Dudley if he were a wizard.
First of all, let's be clear: not Ravenclaw.

No offense to Dudley (although, on second thought, maybe just a little bit of offense...), but he is clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed, and even getting into the Ravenclaw common room would be a challenge for him. That leaves us with three houses, and many fans with the most surprising option... Gryffindor.
"He's a coward, spoiled bully but sees himself as some kind of big shot, so he's probably convinced he's brave and fighting the good fight – Peter Pettigrew was a Gryffindor as well, so we know you don't have to be brave to be a Gryffindor," Redditor kitsvneris said.
If you thought Gryffindor was ultimately a house of "good guys," with the annoying exception of Pettigrew, many fans disagree.
"The dark side of Gryffindor is its tendency to produce bullies, vicious ones. Ron toes the line of being truly nasty throughout the series, even to his friends sometimes. The Marauders pulled truly horrific sh*t, at least once completely unprovoked," Redditor altariawesome noted.
For Slytherin, fans think Dudley lacks subtlety and cunning. Hufflepuff might accept him, as fans see that house as the most tolerant of almost anyone, but Gryffindor seems surprisingly the most fitting choice for Dudley Dursley.
Who would have thought, right? Fortunately, the Sorting Hat was spared the task of choosing a house for Dudley, as he, like his parents, was "very normal, thank you very much."
