Where's Shauna's Baby? Yellowjackets Fan Theories Make Too Much Sense For Our Comfort
The biggest mystery of the show remains unsolved.
Yellowjackets has been called a slowburner, a term usually applied to horror movies in which events unfold slowly and the tense atmosphere is more important than the final twist.
The viewer is constantly informed and hinted at what happened in 1996.
For example, from the very first episodes it is said that the surviving girls resorted to cannibalism when they had nothing to eat. But in the first season, the act of cannibalism itself is not shown – it was left for the second season.
The same goes for one of the most intriguing mysteries – Shauna's child. Where did it go? Why doesn't anyone mention it? The fans tried to figure it out.
The first and most obvious theory is that the child may have died of starvation. Even if the weakened Shauna manages to give birth to a healthy child (which is unlikely since she has been starving for so long), she will most likely simply not have any milk to feed it.
And unlike everyone else, you can't feed human flesh to a baby.
The version that Lottie took care of the child and raised it in her cult is also popular with many fans.
"I think the cult takes the baby as a "holy" child and wouldn't be shocked if Shauna's baby is still alive and in the present day cult," Reddit user Knight_2525 suggested.
Lottie has become something of a leader among the survivors thanks to her fulfilling prophecies, and if she believes that the child will bring some good in the future, then not only will she do everything to protect and raise the child herself, but she will inspire the other girls to do the same.
Although prophecies work both ways. Lottie may also see that the child will be the death of the group, and then the baby can be sacrificed to the mysterious forest god, as was the case with the bear 's heart.
The last theory, which is the least popular among fans, but can still be confirmed, is that Shauna's child is alive and well and is somewhere away from the parents.
Some even suggest that Shauna and Jeff raised it as they would in a normal family, but for some reason the relationship between them deteriorated.
Sharp-eyed fans have even noticed a photo of the family in which two little girls can be seen.
Given the way the Yellowjackets story has been going so far, fans are hoping to get a non-frustrating answer to their question.
You can find out what happens next with the girls in the wilderness of the Canadian woods on April 16, when episode 4, Old Wounds, is released.
