The '80s supercouple will never be forgotten.

To say that the 80's were the heyday of soap operas would be an understatement. There were no shows that captivated as many people as soap operas did, and to this day it's hard to replicate that success. General Hospital, however, has always been a step above any other show, thanks to the success of Luke and Laura's wedding.

From breaking the record of 30 million viewers to receiving gifts from Princess Diana herself, no couple has ever had so much attention focused on them. As controversial as the whole story was, it's hard to argue with the fact that so many people fell in love with their twisted romance.

The question is, where are the actors who brought these characters to our screens, today?

What Happened to Luke and Laura after General Hospital?

Luke and Laura, portrayed by Anthony Geary and Genie Francis, saved the soap from cancellation in the late 70s and continued to attract viewers throughout the 80s. The relationship, which began with a sexual assault, could hardly be called toxic, but audiences were enchanted by the actors' chemistry and couldn't look past it.

Upon leaving the show for the first time, Anthony Geary tried his best to distance himself from General Hospital and escape the "soap actor" categorization, but the industry had already typed him. Hoping to at least leave the role of Luke behind, the actor returned to the soap as his look-alike, but that didn't work out either.

Geary returned to General Hospital in 1991 as Luke Spencer and had a long run until 2015, receiving numerous Emmy nominations. The actor was also very successful on stage, appearing in more than 50 plays over the years.

Similar to her on-screen love interest, Genie Francis also left General Hospital in the 80s to pursue other opportunities, and she was much luckier. The actress has landed several television roles, including a guest-starring role on Murder, She Wrote and portraying Brett Main Hazard in the period miniseries North and South.

However, the actress has not shied away from appearing in soaps. She appeared on Days of Our Lives from 1987 to 1989, All My Children from 1990 to 1992, and The Young and the Restless from 2011 to 2012. Eventually, the actress returned to General Hospital and continues to reprise her role to this day.

Aside from acting, Francis has also dipped her toes into business, opening a store that sells home furnishings and accessories. Unfortunately, due to her busy schedule on The Young and the Restless, the store was sold and closed in 2012.

Unfortunately, there is no way to stream the older episodes of General Hospital online. However, if you are interested in seeing how Port Charles is doing today, you can tune in to the show Monday through Friday on ABC.
