When Did Abigail Hawk Join Blue Bloods?
Everyone’s favorite double-Abigail feels like she’s always been there, but has she?
Abigail Hawk is famous for portraying her namesake Abigail Baker on Blue Bloods. Baker has been Frank Reagan’s primary aid for seasons now, being the one last obstacle between the Police Commissioner and all the people trying to reach him. Diligent, funny, and with her iconic glare, Baker feels like she’s always been there, and it’s hard to remember the exact moment when she joined Blue Bloods.
Double Abigail Is Blue Bloods’ Pillar
If you, too, have caught yourself thinking, “Wait, when did Hawk join the show?” — we’ve got you. Abigail Hawk has been a cast member since the beginning of Blue Bloods: she first appeared in the pilot episode in 2010 and charmed fans instantly, securing her future appearances in borderline every single episode since then.
While Hawk has been present in all but a few Blue Bloods episodes, she’s still somehow listed as a guest star, suggesting that 14 seasons just aren’t enough to become a series regular, in some cases. Despite her bizarre status on the show, Hawk keeps bringing the Baker energy that makes both her on-screen boss and her real-world fans joy and will to keep going strong.
Baker Wasn’t Always Hawk’s Namesake
Obviously, the actress chose to have her character named after her, resulting in the Double Abigail situation. Whether for fun, to easily recognize herself being called, or as a vanity choice, it stuck around… But here’s another fun fact about Abigail Baker: Frank Reagan’s primary aid hasn’t always shared her name with Abigail Hawk.
As we’ve already established, Baker made her first appearance on Blue Bloods in the pilot episode — but back then, she wasn’t nearly as prominent a character as she is now. In fact, her first name hasn’t been voiced once in the first episode… But it was listed in the credits after the episode. And it wasn’t Abigail, believe it or not.
Originally, Baker’s name was Melissa — but it was promptly changed to Abigail after the pilot episode. Our best guess is that Hawk asked for her character to be her namesake and the request was approved, but then someone forgot to change that in the pilot episode’s credits, resulting in this funny bit of trivia about Double Abigail.
