What Will Happen to Daemon in House of the Dragon?
The most controversial character’s evil plans for usurping the power are still under a huge risk.
House of the Dragon ’s second installment keeps diving deeper into George R.R. Martin’s world of betrayals and ruthless murders in an attempt to take over the ultimate power, and the latest episode proves there’s yet another big rival for Rhaenyra who she doesn’t even have a clue about.
The show’s season 2 episode 5, titled Regent, was quick to ensure everyone of how delusional they were about Daemon’s plans to secure more allies for his reigning wife, while in fact all he cared for was his own claim for the throne and the support from other houses he could get while promoting his own candidacy.
Considering that so far Daemon has definitely been way more initiative than the Greens or even Rhaenyra herself about everything that is about to happen in Westeros, some could say he does in fact have chances to become a third party in the approaching war, pushing forward his own ambitions.
Despite many fans’ beliefs, George R.R. Martin has already secured a much more tragic fate for his most ambiguous character, and the end is about to reach him before he even makes an attempt to sit on the Iron Throne.
Since Daemon is now clearly away from any possibility of helping Rhaenyra in the upcoming war, something completely different might happen to him in the show’s following episodes, yet the chances of him eventually becoming the King are still very slim.
However, he might be as well set to meet Rhaenyra in a fight against the Greens as Daemon plays a crucial role in the Blacks’ taking of King’s Landing, so there’s still reason to think that he will eventually have a change of heart or will rather come up with a new tricky plan to seize the power while still operating under Rhaenyra’s name.
Whatever Daemon eventually opts for, he has a good chance of following the fate of the book Daemon.
According to George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, Daemon does accomplish his mission of (spoiler) killing Aemond after spending some time trying to capture the latter after Aemond accidentally killed Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys.
Daemon’s revenge is harsh enough since he’s believed to have driven his sword through Aemond’s blind eye to the point where the tip of the sword came out of the latter’s throat.
Still, Daemon doesn’t survive the battle either, and his body is eventually never found after both characters’ dragons fall into a lake and die alongside their masters.
