What Trigger Warnings Are There in 'Stranger Things' Season 4 Episode 1?
'Stranger Things' is one of Netflix's scariest shows, but season 4 might be pushing the boundaries of a regular sci-fi horror.
Volume 1 of season 4 aired on Netflix on May 27, with the timing of the premiere paralleling the disturbing real-life events. In wake of the recent deadly school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, a couple of days ago, the show has added a warning card at the beginning of episode 1.
"We filmed this season of 'Stranger Things ' a year ago. But given the recent tragic shooting at a school in Texas, viewers may find the opening scene of episode 1 distressing. We are deeply saddened by this unspeakable violence, and our hearts go out to every family mourning a loved one," the warning card reads.
Netflix has also added the following warning to the episode's description: "Contains graphic violence involving children". Additionally, the show's rating advisories now have a "disturbing images" disclaimer.
Back in 2019, Netflix added a message that read: "Some scenes have a strobing effect that may affect photosensitive viewers" to several episodes of season 3.
'Stranger Things' is rated TV-14 on Netflix, meaning that the show is not suitable for kids less than 14-16 years. The series is a sci-fi horror drama, so it is rich in jumpscares, deaths, grotesque creatures, as well as a certain amount of violence.
