What Movies and Shows Did Anthony Howell Appear in?
You may know him as a video game star, but there’s still a chance you overlooked him in some major TV hits.
Having kicked his career off as a theater prodigy, Anthony Howell took some time before turning to TV and cinema after years spent in British theaters starring in Shakespeare’s plays.
His filmography, however, doesn’t go further than his successfully launched career as a voice-over actor for numerous video games, yet it can still boast of some names familiar to the world public.
Howell’s acting path on TV started back in 1999 with the period drama show Wives and Daughters and so far keeps moving on with the latest credit released this year.
After appearing in Wives and Daughters and several more shows in cameo roles, Howell went on to the cinema industry, landing a role of William Carey in the 2002 movie The Other Boleyn Girl.
The film’s relative success, as well as the 2002 detective show Foyle’s War where Howell starred in a leading role, brought the actor more recognition among the British public, and the following year marked the release of his second movie feature, this time the biographical drama Hawking, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the worldwide famous scientist.
However, showing up in two films alongside big stars of that time didn’t give Howell that much of an incentive to pursue something more in the cinema, and he eventually continued taking up minor roles in British TV shows.
To this day, the actor’s TV credits include cameo roles in the 2010 comic sci-fi series Dirk Gently, the 2013 horror Dracula, the period drama series Mr Selfridge, the crime drama Shetland, the 2015 crime show Crossing Lines, the 2015 dramedy You, Me and the Apocalypse, as well as the 2024 thriller series Fool Me Once.
Apart from that, Howell is pretty much involved in the video game world, having given his voice to characters from Arknights, Elden Ring, and Demon’s Souls.
