It started as a light-hearted coming-of-age series following the childhood of the quirky and comedic star of The Big Bang Theory, but recently Young Sheldon has made a turn down a darker path.

Leading up to the current events of Young Sheldon Season 6, fans have watched the Cooper family slowly fall apart, with both parents losing their jobs and the narrative for Sheldon's father George Sr being set up to lead to his affair and untimely death.

With everything seeming to be going downhill, the last thing fans expected was another dark twist, but this time it involves someone outside of the Cooper family.

Paige Swanson, played by Mckenna Grace, is introduced initially as another 10-year-old prodigy in Sheldon's class, who later becomes friends with his twin sister Missy. The pair get along well, and further bond over their family dilemmas.

Is Veronica Ever Going to Make a Comeback on Young Sheldon?

The sixteenth episode of Season 6 saw Missy running away from home for a second time, and taking George's truck to go and meet Paige. It starts as nothing more than an act of rebellion, but it seems the next episode may see the storyline taking a dark turn.

One Redditor thinks that Paige and Missy will get into a car crash.

They believe that Missy will crash the truck and kill Paige, which would explain why the episode ends with the Cooper family appearing to have received a distressing phone call. This theory may be a far stretch, but there is another clue in TBBT that may support it.

It is not often that adult Sheldon avoids talking about his past unless something traumatic happened. The fact that Sheldon never mentions Paige, who was a friend and rival prodigy, and she never appears on The Big Bang Theory, is a strong indication that something really bad does happen to her.

A Dumb Mistake Nearly Cost Young Sheldon A Whopping $300k

Other users felt that Paige dying would be way too dark for Young Sheldon, and some agreed with the dark theory about the car crash, but that Paige was sent to juvenile detention, which would explain her absence and be a less tragic exit for her character.

Although Young Sheldon is pulling away from the plot of The Big Bang Theory, the prequel series does not do it often, and Paige's lack of mention in TBBT combined with her character's downward spiral point strongly in the direction of a life-altering event, fans just hope the car crash theory is not true, but will have to wait for the next episode which is set to air on April 13th.
