What Has Jim Parsons Been Up to Since TBBT Ended?
The beloved TBBT actor has moved away from comedic roles.
It's been four years since the last episode of The Big Bang Theory aired in 2019. During its 12-season run, the hit sitcom had garnered an army of loyal fans, who are still following the show's cast and hope to see them again in more movies and TV series.
The central star of the sitcom was, of course, Jim Parsons, playing genius and socially inept physicist Sheldon Cooper. Even though Johnny Galecki's Leonard Hofstadter was intended to be the original protagonist, Parsons stole the spotlight from him, and his character even got a spin-off of his own — Young Sheldon.
So what is the fan-favorite actor up to now, four years after TBBT ended?
Jim Parsons entered the world of television in the 2000s, playing supporting characters in Ed, Garden State, and Judging Amy. While still starring in TBBT, Parsons appeared in several popular movies, including 2014's The Normal Heart and 2016's Hidden Figures, albeit in minor roles.
With the end of TBBT, the actor did not say goodbye to his character, continuing to narrate the prequel series Young Sheldon, while also serving as a producer on the show.
One of Parsons' recent big-screen projects was 2018's A Kid Like Jake. Its main character is a four-year-old boy who likes to dress up as a girl and is interested in dolls. His father Greg, played by Parsons, is a psychotherapist who cannot handle the situation with his own son.
The actor's next movie was the biographical thriller Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which premiered in 2019. The film follows Ted Bundy, portrayed by Zac Efron, a law student who turned out to be a serial killer. Parsons' character in the movie is Prosecutor Larry Simpson.
In 2020, Jim Parsons' most dramatic movie came out — The Boys in the Band. The story revolves around a group of gay men who gather for a birthday party to have fun, but things go wrong and their secrets are unexpectedly revealed, putting their friendship in jeopardy.
Lastly, one of the actor's biggest projects in recent years is the drama series Hollywood, which tells the story of young talents trying to find their place in the film industry.
Evidently, despite Parsons' iconic role in TBBT, the actor has been trying to prove his acting chops in drama, and fans absolutely love him in these new roles.
