What Happened to Lane Kim on Gilmore Girls? The Only One Who Didn’t Get a Happy Ending

Although Gilmore Girls is a comforting show for many viewers to turn to in times of need, it was not all happy. In fact, while the Gilmore girls themselves, Rory and Lorelai, got their respective happy endings, not every character was granted the same kindness.

The fate of Lane Kim, first introduced in the pilot episode, is one of the worst stories in the entire series. To this day, even the most loyal Gilmore Girls fans cannot figure out who thought it was a good idea to put Lane through all that. If you don't remember how badly the writers treated her, here's what happened.

Did Lane Kim Marry Zack in Gilmore Girls?

For a show that spent so much time pushing the idea that people need to follow their dreams, it did not do well showing those dreams coming true. Of all the characters who really deserved to have something good happen to them, Lane, who has been the victim of an abusive and religious household for most of her life, came out on top.

And yet she was dealt the worst of all cards.

Forced to live a double life for as long as she can remember, Lane has had no support from her parents, who have discouraged all her hobbies or passions. When she takes up music, it becomes her escape from the dull reality, and as she progresses as part of a band, she finally gets a chance to express herself. But it doesn't last long.

In an attempt to give everyone a happily ever after, the writers seem to have forgotten Lane's greatest passion and relegated her to the role of wife and mother of not one, but two children. All this while her now-husband and former bandmate Zack gets to live out her dreams and continue to do what he wants, which makes the entire situation even less fair.

Will There Be a Gilmore Girls Reboot?

While the show ended on an overall positive note, Lane is the character who could benefit from a reboot. She could still find a way to pursue her dreams of a career as a musician and live at least a little bit freely while providing for her children. But even if a Gilmore Girls reboot is in the works, we don't know anything about it yet.

For now, the last (and not the best) installment of the series is from 2016, when Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will hit screens. After one season, which ended up being a flop, Netflix decided not to continue the show. So the chances of another reboot are slim at the moment.

However, nothing is stopping you from going back to the first seasons of the show and giving it another look. Gilmore Girls seasons 1 through 7 are available for streaming on Netflix.
