What Happened to General Hospital's Original Trina Robinson?
And why was she recast?
One of the things that non-soap opera viewers don't get to experience as much is recasting. No matter how talented the actors are and how great they do their job, sometimes the show has to replace them no matter what. And then it can get a lot harder to connect with a formerly beloved character.
Fortunately, that wasn't the case with Trina Robinson, and the vast majority of viewers fell in love with Tabyana Ali just as quickly as they did with the previous actress who played her. However, it's still a mystery to many why Sydney Mikayla decided to leave after 3 years of crazy Port Charles life.
Why Did Old Trina Leave General Hospital?
Trina Robinson wasn't created by Sydney Mikayla, as Tiana Le was the first to portray the character on screen, appearing in 3 episodes between 2017 and 2018. However, Mikayla was the actress who began to explore the beloved character further, giving her the personality and tone of voice we know now.
She rejoined the show in 2019 and stayed for 3 years, until 2022. Born in 2003, Sydney Mikayla was very young when she joined the cast, so it was not surprising when she decided to move on with her life. According to Frank Valentini's comment to Soap Opera Digest, Mikayla left the show to focus on her education.
Even though there is a clear answer as to why the actress had to leave, fans are still wondering what she is doing now and if there is another project they can support their favorite in.
Where Is Sydney Mikayla Now?
Even though the actress has apparently left the soap world behind, that doesn't mean she's done performing. First, Mikayla has announced the launch of the UCLA dance line The Elegant Bruinettes, which she co-founded.
As for acting, Sydney Mikayla still holds on to the profession, although she is currently focusing her energy on voice acting. Her list of animated characters includes Maya from Craig of the Creek, Transformers: EarthSpark's Robby Malto, and Soleil from Fright Krewe.
Considering that the actress just celebrated her 21st birthday, it's safe to assume that her career is about to take off, and that she'll achieve even greater success once she graduates from college and is ready to take the next step.
