Which Controversial Scene Was Left Out of 'The Boys' 'Herogasm' Episode?

'The Boys ' is based on the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic book series, which detailed the struggle of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban ) and his team of vigilantes to overthrow the villainous Homelander (Anthony Starr). The Amazon series has already proven its willingness to push the boundaries when it comes to graphic content, but its source material is still a long way off. With recent reveal that the classic 'Herogasm' storyline will finally be brought to live-action, fans are wondering how the series' creative team will approach its controversial subject matter.

Jensen Ackles, who plays the legendary Soldier Boy, recently revealed to EW that he turned down filming one particular scene for the upcoming season, citing that it was unbearable for "a father of three, and a son and a husband and a self-respecting human being." Fans were quick to connect the dots and attribute this scene to a 'Herogasm' episode, where comics' Soldier Boy has sex with Homelander in an attempt to join The Seven.

And it looks like the fans were right, as showrunner Eric Kripke detailed the major changes Ackles' character would undergo on the show, which, in turn, led to the removal of the sex scene.

"I love that scene and it's hilarious, but for a dozen reasons, all of which will be revealed when you see the season, it ultimately just didn't track. We talked about it. It conflicted with a lot of the other things we were trying to build with Soldier Boy. So, unfortunately, that one had to go," Kripke told Entertainment Weekly.

But despite all the evidence pointing to Ackles' refusal to film a sex scene with Anthony Starr, fans are in no hurry to accuse the 'Supernatural ' star of homophobia, arguing that the scene he declined to shoot has yet to be revealed.

'The Boys' season 3 will arrive on Amazon Prime on June 3, 2022.
