Wednesday Season 2 Sets a Record for an Entire Country as It (Finally) Starts Shooting
Not only is Wednesday finally filming, it’s also setting records as you’re reading this.
Netflix ’s Wednesday Season 1 premiered two years ago in 2022, launching one Jenna Ortega to the highest peaks of stardom. Since then, the lead star has acted in several other movies and TV shows, and Wednesday has been lowkey marinating, keeping fans on edge… But now, Season 2 is actively underway, and it’s already doing numbers — not on streaming, but for the country that hosts the filming.
Wednesday S2 Is Ireland’s Largest Production Ever
There have been countless rumors about Wednesday beginning filming in the past weeks and even months, but finally, we can say for sure: Netflix’s sensational series is now in active production, doing principal photography in Ireland. For the country, it’s as big of an event as it is for Wednesday and Jenna Ortega’s fans, considering that Season 2 is the largest production in Ireland in, well, the country’s history.
It’s so significant, in fact, that even the Irish Prime Minister Taoiseach Simon Harris addressed the TV show’s filming, calling Wednesday a “cultural juggernaut.”
“I’m delighted to see Ireland continues to be chosen as a location to film series and movies which supports our economy, creates jobs, showcases our creative talents and promotes our country on a global stage,” Harris said during his visit to the Wednesday set.
Wednesday Season 2 Will Be Different From S1
There are many expectations wearing heavily on the second series of Wednesday, from living up to the premiere’s standards to following up on already-made promises. Previously, it was announced that lead star Jenna Ortega will also act as an executive producer for Wednesday Season 2, and this is bound to change things.
Ortega herself claimed that she wanted to take a step back from the romance and friendship mambo-jumbo and make Season 2 darker, creepier, and more serious. For fans, this sounds like a solid approach, as many were frustrated by the entirely unnecessary romantic subplot of Season 1 that didn’t click with Wednesday’s lore.
Now that the new season is finally shooting, we’ll be surely getting occasional glimpses at its behind-the-scenes ongoings and news from the set… Including the release date, hopefully: fans are starving for Season 2 at this point.
