Wednesday's Best Pairing Divides Fandom Again: Will Anything Change in Season 2?
So will there be a queer romance after all?
When a new Netflix Original comes out, there’s a high chance it will end up being an absolute hit. It was the exact case with Wednesday, the series based on the character of the same name coming from the iconic Addams Family.
So when in November 2022 the series was released, in just a few days the show broke so many records becoming number one in all sorts of charts that it was easy to understand there’s no way back: a second season was coming.
However, there was a lot of beef about the writing decisions made in the series, with the main one being the infamous love triangle between Wednesday, Tyler, and Xavier. The fans hated the trio’s love story and were begging the execs to cut it off in the upcoming season.
Instead, a completely different pairing gained a huge following as the fandom started shipping Wednesday with her friend Enid. Wenclair became so popular the fans became obsessed with the idea of seeing the two girls discovering true romantic feelings towards each other. And they have some valid points.
Are Wednesday and Enid Just Friends, Really?
The chemistry between them is amazing, Enid is the only one who fully understands Wednesday, they would be a perfect couple! But… There’s another thing. Didn’t they all say that there was not going to be any romance story in season 2?
Half of the audience wants the show to be more about people and their relationships, about mystery and unexpected plot twists. They really believe that was the purpose of creating the show with such a premise.
“I think it was meant to be about the importance of friendships, building lifelong bonds and solving a mystery. I think people need people and for Wednesday she needed Enid to show her friendships can be good and beautiful even more so than romance,” Redditor strawberry_kerosene said.
There is a Way to Put Enid and Wednesday Together
However, the huge part of the fandom still believes the series is headed a queerer way.
“I think it would make sense for Enid to get a storyline for figuring out her sexuality since to Me it doesn't seem like she actually likes Ajax… this then could be a set up for wenclair in later seasons. A slow burn would be the only way to have their dynamic progress romantically. Also Jenna being more in charge and being a fan of the ship herself it seems like something she would advocate for if it fit the story,” Redditor biancaaa74 said.
Well, we think you'll all agree that it doesn't matter what you think about the romance possibilities, but giving yourself the chance to watch the first season of Wednesday again on Netflix is a great option!
The release date for Wednesday season 2 remains to be scheduled, but Netflix has already unveiled the full cast. Stay tuned for more updates on all the tortures Miss Addams has in store for us!
