If we're unlocking them core memories, let's dig up some real deal.

Don't lie to us, you know what The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl is.

While you may not want to give it a second watch if you're older than 15, this cringe festival is certainly a part of many people's childhood. The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, released in 2005, tells the story of a boy named Max, who loves to fantasize and is prone to daydreaming.

He comes up with a couple of imaginary friends, named Sharkboy and Lavagirl, to deal with the complicated relationship of his parents (the two are about to divorce). However, at some point, the dream world blends with reality... in the weirdest way possible.

Hear us out. Early 2000s were filled with questionable movies we used to absolutely love; and now, with the wave of reboots coming our way, it would only be logical if Sharkboy and Lavagirl joined good old masterpieces like Spy Kids in this parade of remakes.

Because if you look past the absolutely insufferable CGI, bizarre dialogue, and the general cringeworthy 2000s vibe, you get a story about a small boy trying his best to escape the harsh reality around him. The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl could be an interesting take on childhood depression and escapism, especially today, when mental health discussion is stronger than ever.

As some fans on YouTube already pointed out, "Sharkboy and Lavagirl walked so Inside Out could run." But in the case of the 2005 movie, the remake could fix what the original film did wrong and enhance its strengths while feeding off of nostalgia.

It seems like Robert Rodriguez, who directed The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, gets it, because he has already brought back his another iconic story, Spy Kids, back to our screens.

The "new generation" will arrive on Netflix on September 22, led by Rodriguez and most likely joined by other OG cast members (even though it has not yet officially been confirmed).

Well, if we're truly about to strap ourselves in for a journey back to our childhood classics, then we're waiting for that Sharkboy and Lavagirl remake, too.
